Jesus

Who is Jesus?

Paul J. Dejillas

Is Jesus God? Did he say, he is God? But other apostles and disciples, as the Catholic Church claims, say that he was God.

The Bible is said to clearly state that Jesus was and is God. This is, of course, refuted as an incorrect interpretation even by many theologians, bible scholars, and philosophers.

What do the apostles and disciples say about Jesus?

  1. John 1:1 says that the Word (referred to as Jesus) was God: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. “
  2. John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. “
  3. Philippians 2:16 says that Jesus was “in very nature, God.”
  4. Colossians 1:19 says that “God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him.”
  5. Titus 2:13 refers to him as “our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.”

What did Jesus say about himself?

There are seven “I Am” statements that appear in the Gospel of John. In each statement, Jesus proclaims His essence as follows:

  1. I am the bread of life (John 6:35),
  2. the light of the world (8:12),
  3. the gate (10:7),
  4. the good shepherd (10:11, 14),
  5. the resurrection and the life (11:25),
  6. the way and the truth and the life (14:6), and
  7. the true vine (15:1).

Based on the above biblical verses, you may want to form your own opinion.

Missing Years of Jesus

The probability that this is true is highly likely. During the time of Herod, the Holy Family fled to Egypt. Jesus could have stayed there. There also exists evidences that Jesus was in India immersing Himself in the teachings and rituals of Buddhism and visiting various ashrams and temples.

All this accounted His absence from the public for 30 years after He was presented to Simon in the temple. That Jesus must give accepted Buddhism is not quite difficult to comprehend. Many parallelisms and similarity can be seen in the teachings of Jesus and the Great Buddha.

Upon his return to Nazareth, it is also now known that Jesus was a member of a secret society known only as the Community of Essence.
