4. Existence

The Mystery of Human Existence

Paul J. Dejillas, Ph.D - Septembr 23, 2023

Our existence can be traced back to the time when there was still nothing, but this nothingness contained several elements that became flesh when the word of the Lord was spoken. Human existence is viewed as a direct act of God. But in science, human existence emerged from the union of atoms and molecules that were once inhabiting the state of nothingness as energy, which quantum physicists call the zero-point energy field.

In both cases, there was already human existence even before the beginning of time and space as part of the minuscule elements lying dormant underneath the empty void of nothingness, but dormant. From the anthropomorphic point of view, we were already alive then living a Zombie-like existence, still unconscious of itself and its surroundings. This state of existence can be likened to that period when we are still incubated in our mother’s wombs. We already possess the innate faculty and power to exist outside and become truly human.

In this chapter, I will discuss two categories of existence, namely, God’s existence and human existence, as they are propounded in religion and science.

The Primary Source of All Existence

From the viewpoint of religion, existence has a metaphysical connotation, usually referring to a divine entity named God in religion or Energy in quantum physics, considered as the Alpha and Omega of everything, the Primal Source of all existence and to which everything goes back. Nothing exists outside this divine entity because it is the giver of all existence. Outside of God, there is nothing and nothing cannot give existence.

We can say that God is the Overall Source of All Existence. No one thing or species has ever existed nor is able to continue to exist if it is not willed by God. All forms and levels of created existence totally and absolutely depend on God for their continued existence. Humans totally depend on the intervention of God for its continued existence. While God or Energy is the creator of all existence, it is also its nourisher and sustainer.

The early Greek philosophers viewed God’s existence as a manifestation of its essence. Its essence is its being, which, in its original state, is pure, hidden, and unmanifested but possesses the potentiality, possibility, and capability to make itself known. God revealed itself and its manifestation is recorded in the holy scriptures and footprints of Nature, as well as through the knowledge we acquired from oral tradition.

So, in the beginning, as metaphysicians would tell us, there was only God. When it uttered the words, its thunderous sound exploded into a fiery Big Bang, giving birth to existence in various forms and levels from the quantum to the macroscopic field. Instantly, God’s essence and existence became channeled into the genes and DNA of every created element and species like the air, water, plants, animals, and humans, that, in turn, carry and hand them down to all the generations that followed.

Thus, God’s essence and existence were encoded and imprinted into all existing creatures. God is within us, as it is in all created existence. Our essence, being, and existence are created according to God’s image and likeness. While God is transcendent, it is also immanent in us so that through us, it mirrors and reflects its image to the entire Cosmos. Through us, God continues to spread its divinity and Godhead across the entire galaxies and Cosmos. Human existence is the image of God or imago Dei.

However, reason and logic dictate that only one Source of all existence must exist. It is overarching all pieces of imaginable finite forms and levels of existence. As the source of everything, its purest state is free from the incumbrances of matter, space, and time.

The Source is the beginning and the end to which all forms and levels of existence must return. It has always existed, as it is now, and will continue to exist in the future. It is everywhere in the vast energy field of space-time from which existence emanates and goes. It is the past, present, and future, the immortal and undying, existing simultaneously in any dimension of space and time.

Outside the Source, there is nothing. There is only existence. In our visible Cosmos, the manifest expression of existence began with the appearance of time, space, and matter during the momentous fiery explosion. Today, existence continues to be present in various forms and levels and will continue to evolve for eternity.

After the Big Bang, the laws of physics and the Darwinian view of evolution immediately took over. Still, they were managed and regulated by the instructions already set by the cosmic designer. What happened after that resulted from the spontaneous mergers and amalgamations as well as constructions and annihilations of subatomic particles that aimlessly swam in the current of the expanding Cosmos.

Once the Source of all existence manifested itself as matter, it has no longer any direct say and act in creation since all created existence possesses the innate power to create, reproduce, nourish, sustain, and even self-destruct. Unlike religion, the cosmic designer does not intervene in the daily affairs and operations of its creatures.

But what is singularity and what force causes it to explode?

Astrophysicists describe singularity as a point in space where the density of matter, or the curvature of space-time, becomes infinite and the temperature absolutely zero. It is an imaginary place that defies the rules of ordinary physics, a mythical space in time where our understanding of quantum physics becomes incomplete. In the language of quantum physics, mathematics breaks down when one tries to calculate something or describe a reality.

Singularity is in space and space is not empty because it contains several low-density quantum elements ready to manifest themselves at a prescribed time and opportunity. These tiny elements have already been identified to include neutrinos, tachyons, cosmic rays, electromagnetic radiation, and a plasma of hydrogen and helium.

In the vacuum state, quantum elements fluctuate, including time and space. This is technically referred to as quantum fluctuation, vacuum state fluctuation, or vacuum fluctuation occurring at the microscopic level, where the level of energy continually changes. A temporary random change in the amount of energy creates a tremendous force in the level of energy that causes the singularity not only to explode and produce existence in diverse forms but also to expand and inflate the nascent universe like a balloon.

Quantum physicists discovered that three built-in magnetic forces, energy, or interactions, namely, weak, strong, and electromagnetic interactions, existed as a single unified force, possessing the potentiality, possibility, or tendency to explode into a Big Bang when influenced by some external forces; otherwise, they remain as potentialities in their undisturbed state.

Human Existence is Created Existence

In religion, each of the various forms and levels of created existence is a derivative of God’s existence. As such, the essence of all created existence comes from God and, thus, it also contains all God’s divine features and attributes. However, contemporary science offers an alternative paradigm that anchors its premises on mathematics. logic, and the laws of quantum physics.

In Einstein’s mathematical formulation, created existence (m) originates from energy (E), which is untarnished and unblemished. The donning of material clothing is an inevitable consequence of living at a lower energy level and vibration. When this happens, energy becomes no longer pure since it is tainted by the solidity and roughness of all the quantum elements that sprouted after the singularity exploded. Energy is transformed into matter. Matter can be viewed as frozen energy. Nevertheless, all material or created existence inherits the essence, being, and attributes of energy. This is the reason why we can say that there is no matter. Matter does not exist, except as an illusion.

Every created existence is complete and whole in itself, serving as the exact representation of pure energy in such a way that even a grain of sand contains the whole of energy. It is in this manner that we are all connected and related to each other as one integral unit or system we call Cosmos.

Nevertheless, quantum physicists assert that our 4-D existence is an illusion. What we see as mass, solid, hard, and rough is not really what we know they are because inside are hundreds of quantum elements moving endlessly, packed and compressed in a hard object manifesting as a table, chair, bed, and so on. They are merely holographic representations of the real, pure, and original state of energy’s existence. However, we see them as real when, in fact, we are only deluded into thinking of them as real.

Our mind can conjure things up to make sense of what it perceives as chaotic and confusing. However, whatever it concocts, it remains a mirage. The world is just a product of the mind’s ability to perceive external stimuli that continue to bombard us without end.

fantasies, dreams, and wild imaginations. Quantum physicists say we live in a hologram created by other’s subjective perceptions. We are unable to see beyond any created existence because of the nature of our mind’s finite existence. We may plan and dream to our mind’s satisfaction and heart’s content but human existence remains enclosed in a hologram of which we are part, our vision veiled by the delusions of things appearing to us.

We know that our sensory perceptions can deceive our minds. Like a screen, our physical senses filter what and how we want to perceive reality. We have been taught, trained, and brought up wrongly in life because of our ingrained beliefs, which have been externally imposed on us since birth. Our focus is more on the transformation and enhancement of material things. We are more concerned with satisfying our bodily, mental, and emotional needs by adhering to what is material and transient. We have become so attached and devoted to them that we now find it hard to free ourselves from their allurements and enticements. In fact, for billions and trillions of years, we have been tightly wrapped in this 4-D paradigm of ours.

However, our discussions have also opened up several questions whose responses are even more controversial. What is the point of living if existence is merely an inevitable outcome of a cosmic design? Are we just to accept the pains and sufferings inflicted upon us? Or, are we to enjoy life to the full in spite of all the vicissitudes and challenges we encounter daily? If so, what does it mean to live life and exist fully? Moreover, who or what defines the purpose of our existence? Are there prepared existential guidelines and yardsticks?

The Sumerian epic (Enuma Elish) is the first recorded narrative about the creation of Man. The Anunnaki created us for the purposes of serving the Gods and Goddesses and freeing the lower Nibiru citizens from their hard labor (Epic of Atrahasis; Ancient Near Eastern Texts; Zecharia Sitchin, 1980; E. A. Speiser, 1950; T. Jacobsen, 1987:151-166).

No plant of the cleared field was yet on earth. No herb that is planted had yet been grown. … And Man was not yet there to work the soil… On the day that Yahweh God made the earth and the heavens, there was not yet on the earth any shrub of the fields, nor had any plant yet sprung up, for Yahweh God had not made it rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the earth, but a mist went up from the earth and watered the surface of the earth.

Blood I will mass and cause bones to be. I will establish a savage, “man” shall be his name. Verily, savage-man I will create. He shall be charged with the service of the gods that they might be at ease!”

Belet-ili the womb goddess is present- Let her create a mortal man. So that he may bear the yoke... So that he may bear the yoke, the work of Ellil, Let man bear the load of the gods!

“You Ninmah (Ninhursag) be the Chief Medical Officer, to assist the task. You are the midwife. Create Mankind! Mixed One that he may bear the yoke, let him bear the yoke … Let the Primitive Worker toil for the gods …”

Thousands of years later, the Sumerian version of the epic of creation found its way into the Book of Genesis (2:4-8):

[2:4] These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created. In the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,

[2:5] when no plant of the field was yet in the earth and no herb of the field had yet sprung up - for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was no one to till the ground;

[2:6] but a stream would rise from the earth, and water the whole face of the ground –

[2:7] then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being.

[2:8] And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

However, anthropologists unearthed fossil remains that give a more factual explanation about our existence on Planet Earth. Our appearance is traced far back to the time of the Homonoids, to which the most known species were the Ramamorphs and Gigantophitecus who were already bipedal and giant-sized by today’s standards. The Hominines came much later. But they were still apelike, they were discovered to be more humanlike from the waist down. The Homo Erectus was considered fully human already. It was from this species that we Homo sapiens descended from. Under this species were the Neanderthals, from which the common maternal ancestral “Eve” was traced through genetic studies. However, this group mysteriously disappeared between 30,000 and 40,000 years ago, also the time that the Cro-Magnons appeared.

These discoveries only add more puzzles to the evolution of our appearance. How did the primates evolve into Hominines, Homo habilis, Homo erectus, and Homo sapiens? The inability of anthropologists and paleoanthropologists to answer these questions only raises some doubts about the theory of evolution and natural selection.

Quantum physics offers a more rational explanation. There is no more point in discussing the meaning and purpose of our existence. For they are already regulated by the physical forces of Nature. This is how this planet of ours has been made. Our beliefs are not standards by which we discern truth from untruth, moral from immoral, and good from evil. We cannot tell the Cosmos what to do.

Nevertheless, this is what we have been doing through the ages. As we journey through life, what and how we think, feel, and act have become the norms and yardsticks for success. They have become so deeply ingrained in us that they now strongly influence the destiny and future of our external reality in all fields of societal endeavors.

With all these differing views, our existence will remain a significant concern so long as we are unable to discover a compelling unified theory about human existence.
